GSM by Satellite : Satellites allow to answer varied constraints :
- Quick implementation of a remote station,
- Connection of remote cells independently of the distance and environment,
- Temporary applications : before terrestrial infrastructure is ready; back-up; additional capacity; special events…,
- Scalability of the links : space segment paid for the actual traffic;
- Mobile applications (ships,…)

Interfaces : Satellite Links can be used for each section of a GSM network (E, A, Ater, Abis) and for each kind of stations (MSC, TRAU, BSC, BTS).

GSM backbones allow the operators of mobile telephony a quick implementation of remote stations independently of the place and required traffic. These support points can be also used in answer to temporary applications by the use of transportable solutions. Satellite connections are indeed the fastest, the least expensive and the easiest way to size the traffic.
Metracom is able tu stydy, to do preliminary technical analyses and to manage the connection by satellite of the base Transceiver station (BTS) towards the central switch.
